Testimonials

Mental health problems: Self-harming (teenagers/young adolescents)

“I took my daughter to see Elizabeth after periods of great anxiety and self-harming.  We had tried other treatments, including CBT, but nothing seemed to lift her mood; however, after several sessions of EMDR with Elizabeth (we could even see a difference after two sessions) she seemed a different girl and has definitely benefited greatly.  Thank you so much, it has helped the whole family.”

Music performance anxiety: A link to past traumas

“I am a professional musician having to do high profile concerts/performances.  Before a concert I can suddenly start shaking like a leaf, breathing fast and breaking into a sudden sweat.  My childhood was quite traumatic at times and I remember having these symptoms when performing as a child.  Although I’ve seen a therapist and had some hypnosis in the past it was useful but it didn’t stop the problem.  I had four sessions of therapy with Elizabeth where she used EMDR to desensitise past traumas and then built on the positives using hypnotherapy.   Now I feel so much better without having the earlier symptoms.   Even if I make a small mistake I still feel in control and have much more confidence in my performances.  The journeys to Wales and Stratford-upon-Avon were definitely worth it.”

Anxiety experienced in sports competitions: Dog handling

“Interestingly, after years of trying different types of therapies for anxiety and all its offshoots in different areas of my life, after my first session with Elizabeth I came away feeling that her EMDR approach could finally help me break free from all the negative aspects of my past.  At the end of five sessions my anxiety levels were much reduced, and I slept well for days before a very important competition.  I felt much calmer and focused, and this was transferred to the dog that I was handling.  He won his test, which was brilliant, and his behaviour generally was so much calmer and easier to control.  This has to be as a result of your work with me.  Thank you.”

Alzheimers

“I just wanted to write this to say thank you very much Elizabeth for what you did for my husband that day.  After his therapy session with you I found that I was able to control him and calm him down when he was so agitated right up until the day he died.  It sometimes took me half an hour but I was able to do it remembering what you said.  It made our lives a bit better and I just can’t thank you enough for what you did.  Thank you very much indeed.”

Smoking cessation

“I came to see Elizabeth as I wanted to give up smoking.  I had smoked for 20 odd years smoking 20 a day.  Four years on (after only having had one session of hypnotherapy) I am proud to say that I am still a non-smoker and have never looked back.  Thank you.”

Confidence in presentations/public speaking

“I had been a confident presenter and public speaker for a number of years; however after one disastrous presentation, where ‘I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me’, the thought of doing another public presentation seemed like a nightmare.  I sought Elizabeth’s help having seen her previously for giving up smoking.  I sat with Elizabeth for over an hour where she used EMDR to desensitise the traumatic experience so that it no longer consumed me and I felt much more positive about the whole thing.  I was overjoyed on the evening because I delivered my speech calmly, professionally and I felt in control.  It gave me such a buzz, I even added off the cuff sentences and felt so elated when returning to my seat.  It was amazing because the feedback was so wonderful.  I am getting ready to do this years’ speech and I do not have to worry at all in my mind about delivering it.  Thank you so much.”

Trauma causing anxiety and stress

“Elizabeth has changed my life!  I went through a traumatic event and struggled to move past it.  Thanks to my EMDR and hypnotherapy sessions I am much happier and full of energy and can move forward with my life.  I can’t recommend her enough.”

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

“For the last 15-20 years I have suffered daily with IBS. It was ruling my life and adding to the anxiety that I often felt anyway. I tried counselling and my GP referred me to the hospital for tests on a number of occasions but this showed up nothing. Trawling the internet in desperation I read a number of stories where people had been supported with IBS by having hypnotherapy. I decided anything was worth a try. I chose Elizabeth because she seemed very experienced and well-qualified. I had EMDR and hypnotherapy and have been amazed that after only a few sessions I was symptom free and feeling far more confident in my life. I only wish I had done this years ago, and that my GP had discussed it as an option. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Elizabeth, very professional and friendly. She has made such a difference to me; you really don’t have to live with IBS.”

Weight control

“After being very overweight for many years, I decided to try something different and I had my first session with Liz in January 2012. I used the weight control hypnotherapy CD regularly and also had a second session with Liz. Since then I have lost 4½ stone in around eight months using Liz’s technique. Now in June 2013 I am keeping my weight down and still turn to the CD for a refresher (or just to relax!) After two sessions with Liz I can honestly say that I would highly recommend her. The hypnotherapy has worked for me as I feel much healthier as well as much lighter.”

Anxiety and depression

“Since I was about 14 I had suffered from severe depression and my self-confidence was rock bottom, things never seemed to get better and I constantly felt worthless. I am now 17 and have come on in leaps and bounds thanks to EMDR treatment. Before I came for hypnotherapy and EMDR, I had been through nearly 3 years of counselling, seeing various different therapists and I only seemed to be going round in circles, making no progress whatsoever. I was a bit dubious about starting EMDR as I didn’t really feel that it would make a difference because I’d seen so many different people, and no progress had been made. However, I was quickly proved wrong; in just 5 treatments I was a different person. My whole outlook on life changed completely and I was receiving comments from both close family and friends, saying that I seemed much happier with myself and those around me. Also, I noticed and appreciated the effects it had on me myself – which had never happened before! The treatment has literally turned my life around and I could not be where I am today without EMDR treatment and hypnotherapy. I would strongly recommend this treatment to anyone and wish it were more readily available/practised more by the NHS, because it could have saved me years of upset. Thank you again for all your help.”

Anxiety and depression

“I only recently became aware that I had depression, but I had been unknowingly suffering from it for many years; that’s one of the problems with depression, it can be a slow poison. It slowly corrupts and warps your notion of normality until you forget a happy version of yourself ever existed. I could never understand why I suffered from it, as I couldn’t pinpoint an event or attribute a reason as to why I felt like I did. I always thought such therapies would only work if you knew why you were depressed, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) helped me let go of my negative thoughts and snapped me out of depression’s vicious cycle. After just one session, I left feeling so unburdened, I felt physically lighter; I remembered that forgotten feeling of happiness. For me, EMDR was like an EMotional Detox Remedy; once again I have the strength to fight back when life throws its curve balls. I would recommend this therapy to anyone, and cannot thank Elizabeth enough for her help.”

Sports performance anxiety

“I decided to try EMDR and hypnosis because my performance nerves and anxiety were really starting to affect me in a bad way and ruining my performance. I found Elizabeth’s website online and I decided to give it a go. I can’t thank her enough! After my first treatment I won my competition the next day, and after the second treatment I feel fantastic and am actually enjoying my competing again and winning lots – I haven’t looked back. I would highly recommend Elizabeth: she put me at ease, is very approachable and professional, and I can honestly say it was the best thing I ever did.”

Music performance anxiety

“As a busy amateur musician I have been experiencing huge performance anxiety for several years. It was getting so bad that on several occasions I ‘chickened out’ of playing completely and on others I was shaking uncontrollably and unable to give a good performance. I visited Elizabeth Brooker with some degree of scepticism a couple of months prior to an extremely demanding concert. After one session with Elizabeth, and listening to the audio recording that she gave to me, my whole attitude changed. I conquered my fear and gave, I am told, a very good confident performance for that concert. Since then I have felt a lot more relaxed and enjoy playing with a new found confidence. I would thoroughly recommend hypnotherapy and EMDR.”

Music performance nerves

“My singing in front of audiences can be adversely affected by pre-performance nerves, which seem to stem from my first solo concerts when I suffered with acute stage fright. Before starting with hypnotherapy and by tailoring the session to my individual needs, Elizabeth felt that the root of the problem needed to be addressed first. We began the session with EMDR, which brought my worst singing nightmares to the surface. By ‘desensitising’ these bad experiences, previous positive performances were brought to the forefront instead. The following hypnotherapy focused my mind on enjoying singing so that when I next performed, I was in control and totally relaxed.”

Anxiety in piano performance

“After my children had grown up and left home, I had retired from work and had a redundant piano which I wished I had learnt to play when I was younger, so it was a case of selling the piano or learning to play, but I did not have any self confidence in this respect, despite encouraging my children to play well. However I started to learn to play the piano with Elizabeth and she was most encouraging, patient and understanding of my difficulty that I really enjoyed it and looked forward to each lesson. Then of course the question of exams came up! I thought oh no, I could not possibly attempt anything like that. She then helped me to overcome the nervousness I had with a course of hypnotherapy and relaxation therapy. I am now preparing to take my Grade 3 piano exam!! which I would have thought impossible a short time ago, but she has been such a brilliant help; I certainly would not have achieved this without her.”

Post-menopausal anxiety

“I want to thank you for helping me to get my life back on track, I wish I had come to see you a lot sooner. I am still a little uptight but generally I am looking at things much more positively and I am much happier than I was. I find your CDs very good and I still listen to them most days. I am also getting off to sleep much better than I was before coming to see you.”
Liz / Evesham

Comfortable childbirth

“I am delighted that I decided to take a course of ‘hypnobirth’ with Elizabeth, because it really worked! I went from dreading childbirth to having a text book dream birthing experience. Friends and family were amazed at how well I appeared – then, and now months after the event”.
Carrie / Stratford-upon-Avon

Assertiveness

“Since my childhood I have suffered from indecision and a lack of self-assertiveness. Now in middle age following one session of hypnotherapy with Elizabeth I am noticeably more confident and self-assured in my dealings with other people, to such an extent that people have commented on the change. I am delighted with the result.”
Richard / Stratford-upon-Avon

Spider phobia

“I went into the therapy session quite unconvinced, but the effects were instantaneous and amazing. The day of the therapy, my phobia of spiders was completely lifted, no exaggeration. Now I can pick them up, rather than just stare obsessively from a distance worrying about what I should do if a spider came towards me! Thank you!”

Cat allergy

“I love cats and was very close to our family cat when I was a teenager, but sadly in my twenties I developed an allergy to them. Ever since, if I stroked a cat and didn’t wash my hands then my hands and wrists would start itching, and even just the presence of a cat in a house could set me sneezing. I was really pleased that after just one session with Elizabeth I could tell a real difference. I found I could stroke a friend’s cat without any reaction on my hands, and even when I could see the cat hairs flying around, I didn’t sneeze. One day I’d love to own a cat again, and now that seems a real possibility for the future.”

Conifer tree allergy

“ For many years, when trimming conifer trees in the garden I have had to cover myself completely and not expose my bare skin, as contact with them has resulted in a severe allergic reaction. This brought out a painful rash all over my body cured only by a course of antihistamine treatment. However, following a single session with Elizabeth of NLP and hypnotherapy, I am now able to work with conifers with no allergic reaction and without requiring layers of protective clothing, which in the summer weather particularly is a boon. I would not have believed that a single session would have had such a beneficial effect.”
